Shooting threat in robberies

PA Wellington An unemployed taxi-driver threatened to shoot the manageress of a Courtenay Place gift shop on Tuesday if she screamed or moved during a robbery of the shop, the Magistrate’s Court was told yesterday. “Scream or move and I’ll shoot you: I’m a good shot,” Barry Flett, aged 46, was said to have told the woman. Flett pleaded guilty to two

charges of robbery. He was convicted and remanded to December 12 by Mr W. M. Willis, S.M. Sergeant F. Wood said that at 2.15 p.m. on Tuesday Flett had entered the shop and after browsing for a short time had demanded money from the manageress. He had been given sll6 in cash and cheques and had left the shop after threatening the woman again. On November 20 he had gone to a local hotel and,

with his right hand in his pocket, had pointed his finger at a receptionist and had demanded money, saying he had a gun. He was given $74 in 50c and 10c pieces. Fiett had been found by the police on Tuesday afternoon and had denied committing any offences. He had later admitted the facts and in explanation had said he must have had more alcohol than he should have. Flett did not seek legal representation.
