No public reaction to school plan
A pilot scheme to prevent vandalism in Christchurch schools has drawn no response. The project involves nearby residents keeping schools under observation and was started recently by the Canterbury Education Board. The general manager of the board (Mr D. Wilson) said yesterday it was too '(early to judge the effects of | the ~ scheme. Any results (would go to the committees iof the schools involved, and (the board would have to (wait three to six months before doing an assessment. The idea was not comipletely new he said, and had (been working unofficially ! for years. “We have considerable co- , operation from people who live near schools, and I am i sure that some serious fires ■ and acts of vandalism have been thwarted by their 'assistance.” Mr Wilson said.
