Park continues run of cricket success
Lancaster Park continued its run of success in “Tbß Press” twilight cricket ccMnpetition when it scored a decisive thirdround victory over Marist at Hospital Corner on Monday evening. Park rattled up 140 p-uns from its allotted 21 overs 'and then restricted Marist to the meagre total of 97 for six. Riccarton and Suburban, second and third respectively after the second rcwnd, maintained their positions with wins. Riccarton plundered the bowl- ! ing of St Albans Colts and notched 144 for the of three wickets. Ross tiilder, Tim Murdoch and Gary Straw were the mainstays of the Riccarton innings and the Celts could only muster 101 for three in reply. Sydenham ran Suburban close in their match but failed by 19 runs. John NeilS'an topped the 'Sydenham batting with an un- , defeated 36 in <a total of 142 ’ for six. and Sydtenham still had ! five wickets in {hand when the i overs ran out. . The closest match featured East-Shirley anti St Albans. St Albans neieded only three runs from the final over but a suicidal attempt at a second run saw the batsman caught well out of his crease. East won by a single run to tnove into fourthequal place with Old Collegians, which manage*! to defeat the Supporters’ team by 12 runs. In the women’s division, Sydenham posted the highest total of the tompetition to date to trounce Lancaster Park. Lesley Shttikland, Sue Storey and Nickl Turner were the principal contributors to the Sydenham total of 151 for four, and Lancaster Park slumped to its first deteat of the competition when It could only muster 98 for foutl from its 25 overs. St Alban.'i scored an easy win over Burrlside-West University to leap-frojp Park on the points table, and Riccarton beat the Canterbury* Women's Cricket Association side comfortably. The Cedarwood awards were won by B. Farrant (St Albans Colts), Jit. Harris (Old Collegians), B. Thomas (BurnsideW’est Wniversity), G. Pierce (Lancaster Park), G. Smith (St Albans). J. Neilson (Suburban), J. Jamiteson (St Albans), N. Sherriff (Riccarton) and R. Bell (Sydenhm). The tjon Breweries "Player of the Night” awards went to Neilson and Jamieson.
