Much crime ‘made easy’
Burglars had to use force' to enter a building in only a (third of the 925 burglaries committed in Christchurch in recent years, police superin-( tendent J. Glynn told a crime, prevention seminar in Christ-, church yesterday. Crime, in New Zealand was one of the more pressing domestic problems, he said. Although the role of the police was to control crime they had to do so while maintaining personal freedom. Most crime would not happen if people took sensible' precautions such as securing windows and doors.
' About 300 people attended the first morning of the seminar at the Avon Theatre yesterday. The seminar will run (from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. each day this week. The co-ordinator of the (seminar, Inspector M. K. J. Tarling said it was mainly to show businessmen how to secure their premises.
