Drink-drive blitz
Parliamentary reporter The campaign against drinking drivers will intensify this month. The Minister of Transport (Mr McLachlan) said yesterday that all traffic districts had been told to show no leniency. Alcohol was still a big factor in road accidents even though the Ministry of Transport campaign had been running for eight months. Because of this the programme would be
intensified throughout December. Every available traffic officer would be on the road supported by ?, publicity programme warning drivers of the risk they run if they drink and drive this Christmas. Special squads to deal with alcohol - impaired drivers would be at work throughout New Zealand. The publicity programme would start this week in newspapers and on radio e.nd television.
