Forest reserves
Sir. — I agree with K. Madden (November 27) that our national parks overemphasise the rugged mountainous regions of our land and with only a few exceptions, most notably Abel Tasman and parts of the Nelson Lakes National Parks, do not cater for the old, young, and less mobile. This is one of the main reasons conservationists have i rged the inclusion of lowland forests in the Park system. Whirinaki in the north, and South Okarito and the Paparoas in the south, each arc of such a nature that thev could be opened up with easy tracks to cater for family groups, and old people in particular. — Yours, etc., L. J. TURNER. November 27, 1979. — - - - - —- —- -
