Egyptians decline invitation
NZPA Tel Aviv Egypt had declined an Invitation from the Israel Sports Federation to send a team to the Sea of Galilee international marathon on December 20, said a spokesman for the federation, Mr Yoav Barnes. In its reply, sent via the Israel Foreign Ministry, the Egyptian Amateur Athletic Association explained that sporting competition with Egypt would have to await the normalisation of relations between the two countries on January 25. The event has been granted official recognition by the International Amateur Athletic Federation. The overseas entry includes leading marathon runners from Britain, Western Europe, the United States and Canada, and Kenya is sending its four top performers in the event: Joseph Kingabi, Christopher Kiprugat, Joseph Ong-Ando, and Arat Too.
