Hurst takes title in Anglia

Andy Hurst made a clean sweep of all the heats to win the 1979-80 Canterbury modified i sportsman championship at Woodford Glen speedway on I Saturday. His Falcoln-powered Anglia | was never in any danger of I being caught, even by the Fiat- ; Chev V 8 of Mike Allan, the runner-up in the title. I Because of Hurst’s superiority I the heats became predictable and the first three places were always Hurst, Allan, and Graham Dodds, in his Capri-Chev VB. Andy Birrell, an expected strong contender, crashed early in the first heat and failed to compete in the remaining heats. Ivan Stack, struck engine trouble, and dropped out after the second heat. fuel-injected 350 Chev Monza, established an early dominance I when Tony Cardwell’s Mustang Cobra II dropped out with a flat i tyre. But in the second race I Cardwell was unstoppable. Doug 1 Smith <350 Chev Monza) a good I way back in second. The last A-grade event had a (sensational finish when at the (last bend the leader.
