Gault dominates Ruapuna

The three-quarters midget, class provided some excellent racing at Ruapuna Park speed-i way on Saturday evening. Ross) Gault stormed to two victories | and one second and made a realj impact in the class. In the first race, Gault, was handicapped on 100 m, but by the end of the first lap he was ahead by half a lap. He went back another 20m in the second race and again was quickly into the lead and never overtaken. Gavin Parr was a good second after avoiding being boxed in. Race three provided another thrilling race between Gault and Parr. Both forced each other. into errors on bends and the Head swapped several times before Parr took control. Gault’s ‘.consistent performances earned him the C.B.A. Mutual ‘“personality of the night” award. . The Midget cars also provided isome fine racing, Norrie Chandler shaking off a strong challenge from Alan Palmer to win the first heat. Second time out it was Palmer’s turn to keep Kevin Proctor at bay and. some skilful driving from Palmer gave him his first win. Unfortunately the class still has mechanical problems; John McKitterick suffered engine failures in all his races.

In race three, Proctor had his revenge on Palmer to win this heat in commanding fashion. The sidecars were dominated as usual by Bruce Turner and Heg. They won all their races and look likely to regain their national title. Larry Ross helped the solo class by not racing away to the big wins of which he is capable. He pushed other riders to show their potential and to record good times. Results were:— Solos A grade. — Race 1: M. Brown 1, P. Fewings 2. M. Pavitt 3. Time. 80.4. Race 2: L. Ross 1, G.
