Electricity charges

Sir, — I would like to support Mrs P. A. Lewis in her stand against Mr Brill, Who could better misrepresent “average” figures than a politician? From records kept over the last 16 years, bringing up a family of three in an insulated house in a hillside suburb, I find the average yearly electricity consumption has been 8280 units, rising from 5000 in 1964 when the children were smaller to a peak of 9520 in 1975. As the house is heated with solid fuel, electricity has not been used for this purpose nor for water heating for six months of the year. In an “all electric” house annual consumption would very modestly be double this amount. Mr Brill’s “average household” could be “average domestic consumer,” including one-room flats, but average family, never. — Yours, etc., J. F. JOHNSON. October 29, 1979.
