Burglary convictions
A factory supervisor convicted on five charges of burglary, involving property worth $1854, was remanded in custody to October 17 for a probation report and sentence when he appeared be- | fore Mr J. S. Bisphan, S.M., I in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Graham .Michael Nolan admitted the offences which Itook pi ace between May and 'September. Among the stolen property was soft toys, baby clothes, furniture, dried-flower arrangements, jewellery and trinkets, said Sergeant K. J. Hurndell. I On September 27 the (defendant, when interviewed, said he had been desperately short of money and that he had intended selling the stolen goods. Of the total amount of property taken $1127 worth had been recovered. Damage to the properties entered [amounted to $420 and compensation of $1146 was (sought from the defendant, [said Sergeant Hurndell. > The offences had been committed because of financial hardship by his client, said counsel (Mr G. R. Lascelles) who unsuccessfully sought bail for his client. DRUG OFFENCES Bail was set at $lOOO following the conviction of a clerk on charges of possess-

In a plot in the rear gar- j den was found 40 cannabis , plants growing in small pots ( while in the Kitchen were 472 cannabis seeds laid on . moisturised blotting paper. , Humphrey had admitted < owning the seeds and 10 of I the plants, said Sergeant 1 Hurndell. The defendant said 1 the remainder of the plants belonged to someone else. i
THEFT CHARGE A photography technician and an unemployed woman jointly charged "with theft were each remanded without plea to October 17. Brent Lloyd Rubber, aged 22, was remanded on bail of $BOO and ordered to report twice weekly to the police. Karen Marie McLeish, aged 22, was released on bail of $5OO and ordered to report to the police each day. Both were charged with stealing two syringes, two needles and a. quantity of drugs, to a total value of $2O, the property of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The alleged offence took place on October 9.
