By
G. K. YULE
The combination of Best of Fame and Wes Butt gained their third win from as many starts this season when they lead from end to end in the H. F. Butland Handicap at Addington Raceway last evening.
Trained at Yaldhurst by Vince Davies, who races him ' in partnership with Mr Bill ( Forbes, Best Of Fame used his front running ability toil find advantage just as he had 'i at Ashburton on Sept mberl] 29. and at Motukarara last < Saturday. He set a sound pace., throughout and sprinted hard; ■ from the 800 m in 59 Bs, giv- I Jr- those back in the field; little chance of working into a challenging position. 11
Sail Again responded well under the urgings of Richard Brosnan, but failed by half a neck to get to the winner. Hurricane Kirk, handy ;enough all the way, was a useful third, ahead of Paul’s Express, Port View and Rock On. j The favourite, Wing Commander, lost all chance at the : start, while Orfeo and CrossTire also gave ground. The holders of sixteen tickets re-invested on the final I leg of the second on-course
lj treble at Addington Raceway 1 1 last evening all received a i; dividend of $388.25. i None of them re-invested .■a ticket on the first four i placed horses. > A dividend of $776.50 was :‘posted after the favourite :Lee Mir had passed the post ■’ a clear-cut winner. However, ; after an inquiry Lee Mir was ■'disqualified from the race for causing interference to Maujdey near the straight enI; trance. Her driver, Robert• :i Cameron, was suspended 1
'.from race driving until after i'October 22. ( Lee Mir was a dominating I (favourite for the race and her ■•win dividend was $2.60. i The computation of diviijdends on the race were fur- • ther complicated by the late :(scratching of Adjo. He was Jordered to be scratched on ; (veterinary advice before the I first race but because of a • misunderstanding officials of Jthe club were not advised • until a few minutes before ( betting closed on his race.
