One ticket on $10,778 treble at Addington
Unique Princess will have fine anient admirer after her r. in in the Burnside Stakes at Addington Raceway last evening. She completed the first on-course treble worth 510.778.05, there being one tuccessful ticket. The holder of that ticket tould have had only forlorn hopes of collecting at the atraight entrance where Murray Rennie had the Good Chase mare at the back of |he field. However, when i pulled to the outside, she i inwound a powerful finish-' Mg burst which carried her past the post three-parts of a length in front of another hold finisher in Bachelor’s I Bold. Unique Princess, a winner; at Motukarara on Saturday, paid a false win dividend of $16.55. She is trained at Ashburton by P. F. Boag,
‘; who races her in partnership • with Mrs B. K. Boag. . The first leg of the treble, t the Old Boys’ Stakes, was ; won in style by Rocketing i: Star, which paid $22.50. She : took the lead about 600 m out and held Aramis out by a length and a quarter. Reuben James made up ground for third, a similar distance • ■ away, with Spry High and Delbert next. Yankee Hall, Out of Beau i and Nyallo Armbro ran into i traffic problems in the 'straight and all looked unlucky not to finish closer. Tough Girl, a big disappointment lately, showed; her true form when she; shaded Beautiful Bells and I Ponderosa Tony in a keen; finish to the Suburbs Handicap. They were clear of Premature and Del Miller, both j of which had their chances. I
SURPRISE WIN Glen Fair, a consistent place-getter in maiden races, caused something of a surprise in the Four-year-old • Stakes in which he paced the 2600 m in the splendid time of 3min 24.35. After being fairly handy, he sprinted clear racing to the 400 m, opened up a short lead and showed dour staying powers to win by three lengths from Trojan, which got up to shade Logan Lea. Jazzman, after being held up on the turn, did well to finish fourth in such a fastrun race, with Drew Hanover at the head of a sadly beaten lot. The second win favourite, Tawhai Blue, paced roughly ce- the first 200 m, covered much extra ground and was beaten with 800 m left. Hey Byrd, a place-getter
last Wednesday only to be disqualified, gained reward with an easy win in the ( Shirley Stakes. He paced the 2000 m in 2min 35.45, time seldom approached by maiden pacers. The Out to Win four-year-old was among the tailenders for much of the way, but began to improve on the home turn. Once into the straight he gathered in the leaders and won with ease by a short length. Johnny Tar finished strongly wide out to cut Newparks out of second, with Waitara only a head back, ahead of the tiring Eastewood Jubilee, which had every chance. The Hey Byrd — Johnny Tar quinella paid $176.75, the fourth three-figure dividend from five races.
