Wanganui narrowly beaten
PA Wanganui A strong early second-half effort carried Poverty Bay to a deserved 10-7 Avin over Wanganui in a North Island second division rugby championship match at Wanganui on Saturday. Failing to take full advantage of a strong following wind in the first-half, Wanganui led only 7-0 at halftime and the danger signals were out.
Poverty Bay rose to the occasion" with wing threequarter, Graeme Barbara, darting between several defenders for a good try and first five-eighth, John Whittle, landing two neat goals, one from a drop-kick. For Wanganui. Murray scored a try and full-back Morrie Griffin kicked a penalty goal.
