Wellington records good win
PA Whangarei Wellington scored a try in the first minute and another in the last second of the first-half to build up a winning advantage over North Auckland in Saturday’s rugby match at Whangarei. Wellington led 16-4 at half-time and went on to win 19-13. It was a bright and breezy match played before a small crowd of 3000. It was an important game for the respective captains, Wellington’s Al Keown, and North Auckland’s Peter Sloane. For Keown it was his 150th first class game and for Sloane it was his 100th appearance for North Auck : land. Keowm. Bernie Fraser and Paul Quinn scored Wellington’s tries, and Alan Hewson kicked a penalty goal and two conversions. Charles Going got North Auckland’s try. Tuck Waaka kicked a penalty goal and[ Eddie Dunn landed two' dropped goals.
