Junior rugby

The high standard of rugby seen throughout the South Island under 16 tournament held at Nunweek Park this week continued to the closing minutes of Saturday’s final between Otago and Canterbury. The 22-all draw was a fitting result after 60 minutes of vigorous and often enterprising play by both sides. The South Island team to play the North Island under 16 side at Dunedin on September 8 is: Marty Vincent, Peter Fenton Bruce Harris, James Leggat, (Canterbury); Tony Dickinson (captain), Steven Lee, David McKinley, Andrew McNabb, Ken Woodhouse, Vaughan Stronach, Robin Walters (Otago); Richard Bartlett, Craig Williamson, Andrew Cartwright (North Otago); Lee MacDonald (Mid-Canterbury). Reserves: Michael Buchanan. Bill Sheehy, Rhys Cain, Lindsay Whitwell, Brent Youle.
