Setback for Graikos

Graikos, one of the more exciting up-and-com-ing pacers, is unlikely to resume racing until towards the end of September.

The five-year-old by Jersey Hanover bruised a foot recently and had to be put out of training. “He was working particularly well at the time and everything pointed to him being fit enough to start at the national meeting,” said his trainer, Sam Ballantyne, yesterday. “All going well he will be back in work in the next few days- and he should be ready to start in four weeks or so,” he added.

Graikos made a big impact when he won the Canterbury Park Four-year-old Mile at Addington last October, recording Imin 58.75. Then he went to Forbury Park in January and early in February where he won the Four-year-old Championship, after which he was put aside.
