Rain hits rugby

The aftermath of the week’s wet weather has upset inter-club rugby plans at a stage when many competitions are nearing completion. The only grades in which matches will be played today are senior, senior B, under-20 and under-19. The senior matches in the DCL Shield competition which were scheduled to be played at Lancaster Park oval have been switched to the south ground, and the SydenhamBurnside game has been

transferred from Sydenham Park to Jellicoe Park. The Anderson and Hill colts’ tournament, run under the direction of the club captains’ and presidents’ committee, • has been postponed until the last week of the month.

The semi-finals — Suburbs v Marist and Christchurch v Sydenham — will now be played on August 26 and the final will be held under lights at Denton ova] on August 29.
