DC10s in high demand
NZPA Hong Kong Air New Zealand has encountered no passenger ■resistance to its DCIO aircraft which fly’ to Auckland from Hong Kong and Singapore. A spokesman for the company said that all flights from both Asian
cities until mid-SeptOmber were almost fully booked. “Most flights are 90 per cent full,” the spokesman said.
Passengers were unconcerned about flying on the airline’s DClOs, and bookings had been very good since the wide-bodied aircraft were brought back into service after their grounding by the United States Federal Aviation Agency. The spokesman said that about 70 per cent of the travellers were returning from visits to Europe, but
a significant increase had occurred in the number of Japanese group tourists joining the Air New Zealand service at Hong Kong. About 30 Japanese a week were travelling on Air New Zealand’s service, an increase on last year.
“It is an encouraging sign for the opening of our service to Tokyo next year,” the spokesman said. He said that cargo space in the DClOs was “very tight” at present, because of the high passenger loadings.
