Man defies court

PA Auckland A man who allegedly shouted “You are a bloody bludger” while Princess Anne walked through central Auckland on Wednesday appeared in court yesterday. Mangu Awarau, aged 30, a storeman and packer, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland with using insulting language and with behaving in a disorderly manner in Queen Street. I

As he entered the dock, he gave a Maori chant and raised his fist in salute. When asked if he had seen a duty solicitor, he shouted: “There is no justice for Maoris or Pacific Islanders in this court — I don’t recognise this court.” Mr J. R. Aubin, S.M., remanded him in custody to August 23 for a defended hearing. As Awarau left the dock lhe spat on the floor.
