Support for strikers
PA Rotorua Engineers on strike at the Caxton Paper Mill, Ltd, Kawerau, have received the support of workers from the neighbouring Tasman Pulp and Paper Company.
Electricians at Tasman have given 14 days notice from July 17 of their intention to strike in support of the 46 members of the Engineers’ Union who stopped work on June 21 when wage-negotiation talks broke down.
The electricians are the first group to offer strike action support to the engineers but the secretary of the Auckland branch of the Engineers’ Union (Mr E. Ball) said the striking men had the sympathy of a lot of workers in other unions.
