Special correspondent Wanganui The Wanganui horse trainer Kevin Thomson, back in Wanganui again this week after a short but highly successful campaign in Melbourne, will cross the Tasman again later this month. Thomson won the Austraian Grand National Steeplechase on Saturday with Somoy and his other runner, Trial Bid, was fourth in the Grand National hurdles. Somoy w'ill tackle the $20,000 Hisken Steeples at Moonee Valley, Melbourne,
lon Saturday week and Trial Bid will compete among the J hurdlers on the same day. Thomson will be on hand to ;jwind up their preparations. J In spite of his successes in Australia this winter, j Thomson has no plans to <settle there. However, he is ! hopeful of campaigning '.jumpers in Victoria again next winter. Last week-end was a memorable one for the Thomson family. Kevin not only won the Grand National but his son, Brent, rode three winners on the flat.
