Tabloid for Waimairi
Waimairi County residents will receive a 16-page tabloid newspaper this month showing how the county works and exploring certain controversial issues. The publication, put together by county staff and students of journalism at the University of Canterbury, replaces a 10-page handbook kept at the county offices. If the tabloid is well received, it will probably be produced annually.
It will have a “know your councillors section,” and will discuss the northern refuse transfer station, the Avonhead Park cemetery concept, and the master transport scheme. It will also give information on rating, town planning and other county functions. Half the cost of the tabloid is being paid by the sale of advertising. It will be distributed to about 25,000 households later this month.
