$14M projects delayed
Final Government approval to proceed with projects costing more than $l4 million is awaited by the North Canterbury Hospital Board. A list of delayed projects released yesterday showed that some, such as the proposed S3.BM department of physical medicine at Burwood Hospital, have been waiting for Government approval for more than two years.
Two projects, the up-dat-ing of Wards 10 and 11 at Christchurch Hospital, have been rejected by the Government because the cost of alterations ($150,000) would
not be justified by the age of the buildings. The proposed Christchurch Hospital school of nursing (estimated to cost more than $775,000) has also been rejected. The Government is seeking a new design, to suit the requirements of different systems of nurse training. A new SI.SM kitchen for Sunnyside Hospital is also waiting final approval after being redesigned to meet Government cuts in building costs. The single largest project!
; for which approval is awaited is the S4M central i laundry service planned to ; be built at Sunnyside HospiI tai to service all the board’s . hospitals. j Other waiting projects are , a geriatric day centre for . Princess Margaret Hospital , (SI.3M); an open-heart unit for the same hospital .
