Superannuation

Sir,—Thank you for your clarification of the rationale for the recalculation of the National Superannuation to 80 per cent of the taxed,

average ordinary time wage. This appears to be that both husband and wife ciaim on half this payment for tax exemption, and would otherwise pay less tax than is due on a single person earning this income, which is the basis of the calculation. This may be accurate, but are not most supplementary retirement incomes in one name and taxed for one recipient? The moral is for retirement savings also to be spread among all they are to support. — Yours, etc.,

R. A. SMITHAM July 11, 1979.
