Soccer player killed
PA Dunedin A member of the Dunedin City soccer club’s second team was killed when the car he was driving plunged over a 20m bank on Saturday evening. He was John Campbell Steel, aged 22, of Caversham. Three other members of the team, Peter John Dunn, aged 23, Garry Allan Grant, aged 19, both of St Kilda, and Peter Leight Bainbridge, aged
19. of Dunedin, were passengers in the car. They were thrown out and suffered cuts and minor fractures.
The four men were returning to Dunedin after playing in a Southern League, qualifying division match at Oamaru.
