Picking colour
Picking the right colour for the right room will help a cold room seem warmer, a small room seem larger and an univiting room seem more friendly. Basically, dark colours make walls appear to close in; light, colours, in contrast, seem to expand walls. The way to make a room look its largest is to paint it white, off-white or antique white. Choose warm and light colours (reds, oranges, yellows) in rooms receiving little sunlight. These colours will also help to make a low ceiling seem higher. On the other hand, cooler, darker colours (violets, blues, greens) are appropriate for sunny rooms. Dark colours are especially effective in making a high ceiling seem lower.
