The , delegates passed a unanimous resolution, ‘‘that this meeting record its total opposition to derecognition or deregistration of unions, and serves notice on the Government to expect an immediate response of retaliation by the organised trade union movement should they take such a step.” , The Council plans to organise unionists in the Wellington district to act “with all possible speed” should the Government contemplate any such measure. It was likely that the Government would threaten to deregister the Drivers” Federation if it went ahead with national strike action over pay claims, Mr Kelly said.
