Pit-a-pat-a
Pit-a-pat-a-pit -a-pat - a I hear .a sound, What could it be ? There’s no one around. Pit - a - pat - a - pit - a - pat -a, There it goes again. But what could it be ? The sound of the rain? I thought to myself, What could it be ? There’s no one around, As far as I can see. Squeak, squeak, squeak, Came a voice from behind. So I turned around And what did I find ? Right there beside me Was a tiny little mouse Standing upright As though the man of the house. It stared at me with bright brown eyes, That looked at me with glee. Then quickly did he run away To where? That puzzles me. Then pit - a - pat - a pit - a - pat -a, There it went once more, But this time t’was not a mouse, But rain against the door. — By Joanne Wood, 53 Parkstone Avenue, Avonhead, Aged 11 years.
