Soccer double

Special correspondent Auckland Second-half goals from Kevin Mulgrew and Frank McKay gave Trans Tours United both Rothmans soccer league points against Manurewa, yesterday. By winning 2-1 the Christchurch side completed a league double over last season's Adidas and Chatham Cup winner, although yesterday’s game was nothing like the 5-1 hammering Brian Hardman’s team gave Manu-j rewa in Christchurch.

The new international, Johan Verweij, was subdued for most of the match by the Manurewa linkman, Chris Turner, but the rest of the T.T.U. side did enough to warrant a win at Gallagher Park.

The goal-keeper. Peter Moot, made several good saves — and one superb one from Turner — and was worthy of the "man of the match’’ award. He was one of the main reasons why the two sides changed ends at 0-0. In the second spell some desperate I Manurewa defence kept out I a “McKay and company” raid, but the clearance only went to Mulgew. The winger hooked a half-hearted shot over Frank van Hattums head for the first, important Igoal. The second T.T.U. goal was all McKay’s. With Manurewa defenders appeal, ing in vain for off-side, the striker wisely ran on and slotted the ball home, for the referee to confirm tha 2-0 lead.
