McGregor out of trials
PA Auckland Ash McGregor, who scarcely had a run with the All Blacks on the tour of the British Isles last year, has withdrawn from the All Black trials at Pukekohe Stadium tomorrow. The Southland flanker was forced to pull out because of an injury in club play on Saturday. His place in the Possibles side in the early trial will be taken by Paul Quinn, of Wellington, a member of the New Zealand Maoris team which returned to New’ Zealand on Saturday. Hud Rickit, who showed his value as a line-out jumper when Waikato played Counties last Wednesday, may also yet get a game in the trials. Rickit has been called into the reserves in place of the Waitemata lock, John Allen, who has withdrawn through injury. Counties union officials are predicting a big crowd will attend the trials. The field has a generous sole of gras’s and the scene is set for bright, open rugby should the teams see fit to play it that way.
Players for the trials arrived in Pukekohe yesterday. Late last evening the only absentee appeared to be the ’ All Black and Maoris prop. Billy Bush.
