Moot saves third penalty
A brilliant penalty save by the young goal-keeper, Peter Moot, allowed Trans Tours United to gain control of its Rothmans National League soccer match against Dunedin City at the Caledonian ground yesterday, Trans Tours won the match, 4-2. It was the third con-: secutive game in which Moot has had to face a penalty. His record in conceding none is excellent and may yet “pysch” more penaltytakers into misses.
Trans Tours played to an obvious policy of containment for the first 20 minutes, although its coach (Mr Brian Hardman) said afterwards that too many chances were allowed City in that period.
Apart from a couple of break-aways it was all City, as Jack McGillivray hoisted one over the bar. Gordon McDonald forced Moot on to his knees with a powerful shot, and a defender, lan Park, luckily hooked one off the goal-line.
In the twentieth minute — after two successive corners — McDonald eventually scored with a precise header from a McGillivray corner. Five minutes later Moot impeded Michael Glubb after a scramble for a through
ball, and a penalty wat awarded. Moot saved wel from McGillivray and th< game started to swinj T.T.U.’s way. In the thirty-fifth minut, Frank McKay raced through with the City defence ap I pealing for off-side, an, 'equalised. Three minute, later a splendid Steve Sum ner run to the left drew th, defence and left Johann Ver. weij free at the far post The tall striker had to bent down to head in Sumner) kick.
To cap an industrious ant skilful game, McKay pui Trans Tours further ahead i, the sixty-fifth minute with , glancing header from an lat Marshall corner, that com. pletely deceived the Citj I coal-keeper, John Sudol. | City pulled one goal bacli | soon afterwards when Ik« i Nitis scored after Moot jcould only half stop a Stev, ; Wooddin shot. j Trans Tours was thoroughly in command ever then, and it was no surpris, when Marshall took advantage of a defensive blundei to score the fourth goal. Trans Tours was possibly luckly to weather the early storm but in the end it deserved to win as well as it did.
