Girl knocked down by car
An Ashburton girl was seriously ill in Christchurch Hospital late last evening after being knocked down by a car at the comer of Madras Street and Moorhouse Avenue about 1 p.m. yesterday. She is Susan Katherine Porter, aged 16, of 119 Burnett Street, Ashburton. She suffered serious head injuries.
A young woman who suffered serious leg injuries after a car hit a parked car on Lower Styx Road on Thursda” evening is also reported to be seriously ill in Christchurch Hospital. She is Patricia Leca, of 13 Gray Crescent, Kaiapoi. Her sister, who suffered head injuries in the same accident, has since been discharged from hospital. Two Christchuch men were
seriously injured when their car rolled over on State highway 1, just north of the Omihi School, at 3.30 p.m. yesterday. John Albert Gearachawski, the driver, aged 34, has been admitted to the orthopaedic ward at Christchurch Hospital. His condition last evening was not available. Timothy O’Brien, aged 33, the only passenger in the car, was admitted to The Princess Margaret Hospital. His condition was described as “quite comfortable” last evening.
The Amberley police said that the car failed to take a bend in the road, went into the shingle, and rolled over several times. It was severely damaged.
