Power charges

Sir, — Unlike your editorial, I believe that energy (like other factors of production) should be charged at its delivered cost price. This would undoubtedly mean an advantage for users of natural gas in New Plymouth, and of electricity in Dunedin. In return, all of us would benefit from the extra goods produced by not subsidising the less efficient uses of our resources. If we are to achieve a higher standard of living by removing feather beds from uncompetitive “effort,” let us thwart this yearning for protection. — Yours, etc., R. A. SMITHAM. February 1, 1979.
