Methanol ’popular’
PA Wellington Methanol blended with petrol is proving to be a popular experimental mix with fleets of vehicles, according to the Ministry of Energy. A spokesman said that several organisations were experimenting with different percentages of methanol blended with petrol. The lower the methanol content the less expensive it was to modify engines. Fleet operators were finding that no modification was required with most
cars when 15 per cent methanol was used. The Ministry of Works and Development lias 360 vehicles on a methanolpetrol mix. BP (N.Z.) Ltd, is one private firm pleased with the results of its meth-anol-petrol fleet experiment. A company spokesman, Mr A. H. Sutton, said BP had had 30 cars on a 15 per cent methanol-petrol blend for more than a year. The fleet had so far travelled a combined total of more than 400,000 km.
