Richards unbeaten

Only one player, Avonside’s promising young left-hander, John Richards, is unbeaten after seven rounds of the A grade summer table tennis competition. Richards, the secondranked junior in Canterbury, has won all his 21 matches but two players, Maurice Burrowes (Avonside I), a team-mate of Richards, and Stuart Armstrong (Riccarton I) are chasing hard, having lost only one match each. Burrowes suffered a surprising reversal against Jeremy Simons while Armstrong was beaten by Jan Morris. The experienced Avonside II player, Bill Scott, lies fourth with Martin Kelly, another promising youngster. They have lost two matches. Miss Morris and Michael Hamel have each been beaten three times while Guy Halliburton the Riccarton left-hander, has lost four matches.
