Young v. old at tennis
A new version of the generation game will take place at Wilding Park on Sunday when a New Zealand junior tennis team will play a national veterans’ invitation side. The junior team will consist of the under-19 boys and girls at present competing for the Wilson and Linton cups against Australian state sides; the veterans are all 38 or older.
Tlie invitation side will be headed by a former Davis Cup player, John Barry, and a national women’s singles champion of the 19605, Judy Davidson.
The noted brother and sister combination of Peter Becroft and Elaine Stephan will also compete in the contest, which will be a prelude to the Australasian veterans’ tournament in Christchurch from Sundav until February 6. The teams will be:— Juniors.— Bovs: B. Derlin, M. Lewis. D. Patterson, C. Harris. Girls: B. Corson, A. Roileston, G. Robinson. A. Davidson.
Veterans.— Men: J. Barry, P. Becroft. R. Keenan, J. Borough. Women: J. Davidson, B. Ward. D. McKinnel, E. Stephan.
