No action on urgent pharmacy
The Hornby District Community Council has decided not to pursue the matter of an urgent dispensary in its area.
A circular letter was sent to 21 doctors serving the area, asking for their views on the need for after-hours chemist facilities in Hornby similar to those provided in central Christchurch. Twelve replies were received: four in favour, one in favour of week-end service only, and seven against.
Last year the council took up the matter with the Christchurch branch of the Chemists’ Guild. The guild’s response was that a chemists’ roster system had been tried in the area before but had not flourished.
At the same time, guild members said they were concerned about the' lack of urgent dispensary facilities in the rural and” semi-rural areas.
The County Clerk (Mr B. L. Mooar) recommended to the council that no further action be taken in view of the comments received from the doctors.
