Canty well represented

As is almost traditional, Canterbury seems sure to be well represented in the various team pursuit events, particularly among the younger riders, at the national hard-track cycling championships. Two worthy junior teams can be fielded if last evening’s meeting at Denton Park is a guide.

A shadow A team was the winner, but not by a large margin from a second squad which was down to three within the first four laps. And a busy evening of Italian pursuits culminated in the strongest squad getting its time down to just over 2min. One of that team, Craig Adair; also demonstrated just how consistent he is over 4000 m.

Again, he led out for the last lap, again with Vaughan Harvey tucked on his wheel, and again they finished that way. The first of the season’s 15,000 metres was won handsomely by Tony Strang, making his challenge in the back straight and holding off Mark Litolff, handy on Strang’s wheel.

For the first time, the Savoy Centre race was for open grade riders, and Peter James won the 1600 m handicap event. Results:— AMATEUR
