Heat hits young cricketers
Play in the fourth annual egional under 16 cricket tournament .commenced at the Christ’s College wickets. Hagley Park, esterday in very hot, trying onditions.
Play in all three matches was ery interesting, producing at imes good cricket.. The most exciting finish was between Ashburton and North Jtago, which failed by one run o reach the Ashburton total of 127. » ’ Suburban, after declaring at IS? for seven, soon had North Canterbury in trouble at six down for 97, but the extra half lour was needed to dismiss he last four batsmen. North anterbury was finally all out.or 149.
The highest total of the day was by Canterbury, which delated at 204/3 and dismissed South Canterbury for 104.
South Canterbury fared far oetter in its second innings and was 110/2 when stumps were drawn.
The main game today Is between the two leaders. Canterbury and Christchurch Suburban.
Ashburton 127 (M. Buchanan 48; B. Harris 5/37. J. Ford 3/26, R. McGregor 2/38) beat North Otago 126 (M. Lynn 27 W. Flannery 25 not out; B. Undy 4/44, M. Buchanan 4/29).
