Blown fuse ends film

PA Auckland More than 300 people left the Westend Theatre, Queen Street, Auckland last evening after members of the staff detected a “burning smell.” While the disgruntled patrons of the 5 p.m. screening of “Force 10 from Navarone” milled outside, firemen searched the theatre. One of the air-condition-ing units in the theatre ceiling had blown a fuse and seized up. A fireman said the burning smell was difficult to trace because it was not emitting smoke. All the patrons had their money refunded, and the 8 p.m. sesson of the film was screened on time.
