Maui gas contracts delayed
PA Wellington The Government has released Maui Development, Ltd, from its obligation to let all contracts and tenders for the construction of the Maui B platform by the end of next year, the Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) said yesterday. The decision had been made as a result of the downturn in gas requirements for electricity generation. “This release is regarded as a temporary matter of 12 months at. this stage,” Mr Birch said. “The situation will be reviewed within 12 months in the light of tests being carried out by the Liquid Fuels Trust Board into possible production of liquid fuels from natural gas,” he said.
