Under the new Act persons bom outside of Canada after January 1, 1947, and before February 15, 1977, to a Canadian mother and non-Canadian father are eligible to obtain Canadian citizenship- provided they apply before February 15, 1979. Children bom outside of Canada on or after February 15, 1977, to either a Canadian father or a Canadian mother are Canadian citizens but should apply for proof of citizenship.
