Radio firm may apply for warrant

The Canterbury Broadcasting Company is likely to apply again to the Broadcasting Tribunal for a radio warrant in the next nine months, according to the company’s managing director (Mr R. C. McKay).

The company’s first application for a warrant was declined last May by the tribunal.

Mr McKay said that the first appliction was very much a test case.

“Nobody knew the tribunal’s feeling on a lot of matters,” he said. “But now we know what the tribunal wants and our application will be based on that knowledge.” Mr McKay said there might be some changes in the company’s staff, especially on the board, which required a more diverse background among its members.
