Forest fire risk high
Fire danger is medium to high in the Hanmer and Balmoral forests, but is not yet- critical, according to the assistant conservator of forests for Canterbury (Mr T. E. C. Bridge). No rural bans on open fires have been imposed, these being the responsibility of local authorities which now rely mainly on Forest Service danger readings. A few’ accidental fires in Canterbury rural areas in the last few weeks have not been serious.
