Shortly before the mem- 1 orial service in a city t square, expected to be pack- I ed with thousands of people, c a former municipal official, < Dan White, will appear in i court to be arraigned on charges of murdering Mr t Moscone and Mr Milk, aq member of the San Fran-iv
I cisco Board of Supervisors. ! White, who is 32. could face death in the gas chamber if convicted. He has been charged under an article, approved by voters only three weeks ago. which extended the death penalty to cover the murder of elected officials while they were carrying out their duties. Mr Moscone was shot four times and Mr Milk five times. The police said White had demanded that Mr Moscone give him back his post on the Board of Supervisors, which helps the Mayor run the city. White had resigned from the board two weeks earlier and Mr Moscone was to have announced White's successor shortly after he was murdered. Ironically, White was to have been presented tomorrow with an award by the Fire Department for rescuing a mother and her child from a burning building. Fire officials said the award would stand but the presentation ceremony would be delayed.
