NZPA London The New Zealand jumper Grand Canyon stormed to his second consecutive recordbreaking win in England at the week-end as he finalised his preparation for America’s Colonial Cup. The eight-year-old Oak-ville-Moataata gelding left Britain yesterday for the United States heavily favoured by British commentators to notch his second win in the South Carolina race. After a year away from racing with splint troubles, Grand Canyon came back a fortnight ago to win his first start in course record time over 3200 m and repeated the feat over the same distance in the Marlow Ropes John Skeaping Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday. The New Zealand gelding jumped well and made all the running in the 5NZ15.700
11 race and used it as little more than a good exercise " gallop when his main rival, ; Kybo, fell at the fifth fence. The trainer Derek Kent said on Monday his charge 1 was now “perfectly OK” and 1 had shown no signs of any > recurrence of the leg injury which ruled him out of - the last northern season. ■ “We’re in with a great : chance for the cup,” he said. ’ Grand Canyon won the J Colonial Cup at Camden 1 two years ago, and is tipped * to gain a second win in the November 18 race. i
