Clubs receive $9.8M from T.A.B. profits
A total of S9.BM surplus , profit from the Totalisator• [Agency Board was d's-i tributed to racing and trotting clubs yesterday. Announcing this, Mr H. G. ICaliam, chairman of the; Racing Authority, said that. the amount exceeded last, .year’s allocation by SBOO.OOO or 8.9 per cent. Mr Callam said that the surplus profit received by. the authority from the; Totalisator Agency Board for! ; the year ended July 31, i 1978,- was $10,274,175. From, (this $123,004 administrative costs had been deducted. [ A further $351,171 had [been deducted and will be I made available for certain; I special purpose grants, in-: ; eluding training track; [grants. I The remaining S9.BM has[ ibeen distributed to clubs. i I As far as the payout to I the major metropolitan clubs; | is concerned the Auckland; ' Racing Club is way out in • front. It received $825,285' compared with $895,506 last; year. Next on the list is the I [ Wellington Racing Club with i
($575,144 — last year’s figure i was $581,955 — then comes ithe Auckland Trott, ig Chid which received $527,245. : This is 8132.183 lower than Hast year's figure. The New 'ealand Metro-i politan Trotting Club is next I will; $402,714. as against; $415,867 last year, and the Avondale Jockev Club follows with $357,196. compared with $411,030. Fourth among the major racing clubs and sixth on ; the over-all list is the i Canterbury Jockey Club. Its share is $294,633, a drop of only $3636 on the previous ; year's figure.
