Export freights raised
PA Wellington Shipping freight rates for New Zealand’s meat and dairy produce to Britain and the Continent will rise 8.48 per cent from November 1.
The Meat Board announceed the rise after three days of negotiations among the Dairy and Meat Boards, the British shipping lines, and the New Zealand Shipping Corporation. The increase will apply for 12 months from November 1, 1978.
The Meat Board’s chairman (Mr C. Hilgendorf) said the figure incorporated a currency adjustment factor. About half the increase would allow for inflation and so eliminate the midyear inflation adjustment of recent years.
The change to a 12-month rate would help exporters, he said.
