The Local Legislation Bill was given a first reading and referred to the Local Bills Committee. An appropriation of public money was accorded the Education Amendment Bill, the Finance Bill, the Fishing Industry Board Amendment Bill, the Liquid Fuels Trust Board Bill, the Maori Affairs Bill, the, Misuse of Drugs Amend-’ ment Bill, the Film Commission Bill, the Orakei Block (Vesting and Use) Bill, the Social Security Amendment (No. 2) Bill, and the War Pensions Amendment Bill. Ministers answered 17 questions.
After the dinner adjournment, the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) moved that urgency be taken. This was agreed after a 36-24 division. The Rates Rebate Amendment Bill was given a second reading. The Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Amendment. Bill (No. 2) was passed through the committee stages with amendment. The Co-operative Dairy Companies Amendment Bill was given a second reading.
Continued debate on the committee stages of the Appropriation Bill (No. 2) resumed at 9.55 p.m.
The House was still sitting at 1.30 a.m.
